Local Government has the unique position to profoundly influence cultural change, engage with people in their communities and respond to local issues. Given their role to creating safe public environments and their ability to reach community members local government is well placed to take an active role in the prevention of violence against women.
The Courageous Conversations Campaign covers 12 local government areas. Nine councils have endorsed this campaign, a local representative from each council attends the bimonthly Local Government Committee Meeting.
This committee works together to support each other, share information, resources and models of practice. By working together this group can advocate and take collective action providing a consistent brand and shared messages across north east Victoria.
